The University has welcomed a passionate individual to the catering team: Sussex Uni Food’s dedicated Sustainability Manager, Sandra Juan-Delgado, who has a rich background in academia, activism, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
Sandra has been dedicated to impactful research in both academia and the charity sector, particularly in Mexico. Her focus on human rights, refugees, and climate justice showcases a deep commitment to addressing pressing global issues.
Notably, Sandra played a pivotal role in Contaminantes Anonimus, a Mexican youth organisation dedicated to environmental issues. Through hosting workshops on ecofeminism, public policies, and food waste, she demonstrated a passion for inspiring change.
Sandra’s commitment to climate justice and gender equality led her to co-found Nahuala Indomita, an organisation that seeks to merge art, education, and activism. Their initiative 'Between Care and Resistance' is a testament to the power of combining these elements for societal transformation. You can explore more about this innovative project .
A former Master’s student at Sussex
In 2020, Sandra brought her wealth of experiences to the United Kingdom, pursuing a Master's in Sustainable Development here at the 麻豆传媒社区入口. During this time, she became a Youth Ambassador for the United Nations Association - Climate and Oceans’ Youth Council, showcasing a commitment to global environmental issues.
A vision for sustainability at Sussex Uni Food
“I aim to minimise waste generated by our onsite outlets as well as ensure we are always sourcing sustainably,” says Sandra. “I am particularly driven to inform our campus community about the importance of sustainable food and connecting with the food we eat, as this creates a sense of responsibility and mindfulness when it comes to changing our behaviours.”
We look forward to the positive impact Sandra will undoubtedly make as she leads us toward a more sustainable and conscientious future at Sussex Uni Food.
