Module Outline

Students take 3 from among a series of specialist Advanced Methods courses in Social Research. Most of these courses take the form of a single day workshop, which students must attend, and complete the relevant assessment. Occasionally, courses take the form of two half-day workshops. Topics may include:
Evaluation of Policy and Professional Practice
Systematic Review
Multisited and Mobile Ethnography
Researching Hidden and Hard-to-Reach Populations
Qualitative Comparative Analysis
Social Research in Conflict-Affected Zones
Using Mass Observation
Social Research in Court Settings
Data Management when using Large Data Sets
Q-Methodology
Advanced Methods in Legal Documentation
Social inclusion in Education and Social Care

Module learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of particular advanced research techniques in the social sciences.

2. Be able to utilise particular advanced research techniques to collect or analyse social data
