Module Outline

This course aims to provide a overview of what it means to be a feminist, and how feminism can help you better understand global development. We will do this by learning about different feminist approaches and applying them to a variety of development issues.

We will achieve this by: (i) Analysing how development is traditionally understood and the dominant discourses of development; (ii) Analysing the problems with these discourses; (iii) Looking at how these discourses are being challenged by feminist approaches; and (iv) Considering whether, and how, these approaches can be used in (more) transformative ways
