Module details for 2023/24.

30 credits

FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)

Module Outline

This course considers the implications of Climate Change mitigation policy and the transition to a low carbon development for developing countries. Students will engage with critical debates (including tensions and commonalities between developed and developing economies) in relation to climate change and economic and human development. These are definitive of the contemporary international policy debate and on-going negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol. Students will be encouraged to engage critically with these debates having been introduced to various theoretical and policy ideas and practices currently under discussion. Beginning with the general context, the course will proceed to cover various approaches to understanding low-carbon development, particular instruments of the climate regime, and alternative views on what low-carbon development means for poorer countries.

Module learning outcomes
