Essential Maintenance: SSH access, 12 November 2018, 07:00 - 07:30

Posted: Wed 7 Nov 2018, 4:28pm.

Description of work:

We’ll be making updates to the university’s SSH gateway (unix.uscs.susx.ac.uk) as part of our ongoing work to ensure resilience. This work will involve replacing the servers that currently provide this service.

SSH access to unix during the maintenance window should be considered at risk.

If your SSH client (programs such as Cyberduck, Transmit or Putty) fails to connect after this maintenance is complete, please follow the instructions below:

Windows (Putty): remove current connection for unix and re-create a connection. Please only use the service name (unix.uscs.susx.ac.uk) for your connection.

Mac/Linux: remove entries for ‘unix.uscs.susx.ac.uk’ from your known_hosts file and establish a new ssh connection. You can remove the entry by running the following command in a terminal window: ssh-keygen -R unix.uscs.susx.ac.uk

Date / time:
12 November 2018, 07:00 - 07:30

Is this work likely to cause disruption?
No disruption is expected during this work. However, your SSH client may need to be reconfigured after the change.

What will you notice once this work is complete?
All services will continue working as before.

Why are we doing this work?
Other aspects of the network have been reconfigured, and this change is being done to rationalise the network architecture and provide a more resilient service.
