The network, which first launched as a pilot in April 2023 with 36 universities and now officially launches with an expanded cohort of 65 universities, was created to connect universities across the data science and AI ecosystem, providing access to bespoke network activity and encouraging collaborations.
It offers UK universities with an interest in data science and AI the opportunity to engage and collaborate both with the Institute and its broader networks in academia, industry and the public sector.
Sussex AI, as one of 12 Centres of Excellence at Sussex, carries out ground-breaking and potentially transformative research that will drive progress and make an important contribution to both planet and people. Sussex AI will benefit from the opportunities gained by joining the network.
Professor Thomas Novotny, Head of Sussex AI said: "We are excited that Sussex is taking its rightful place in the new Turing University Network based on our illustrious history of AI research and our ongoing research in Data Science and AI. Having brought together AI researchers and users at Sussex in the new ‘Sussex AI’ Centre of Excellence, we are looking forward to reaching out further and connecting to the Turing Institute and other universities with leading AI research programmes. We are keen to exchange ideas and create new collaborations across the network."
Dr Jean Innes, Chief Executive Officer of The Alan Turing Institute, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome our new members to the network. We hope that they will benefit from being part of our data science and AI group and find opportunities for new, meaningful collaborations across the data science and AI landscape.”
