Unlock the universe: the 麻豆传媒社区入口 announces its science talks programme for this autumn

Sussex Universe, the 麻豆传媒社区入口 Science talks series is announcing its . This engaging series of talks will explore the fascinating fields of mathematics, physics, psychology, life science, engineering and informatics, promising a stimulating journey through cutting-edge research.
Open to all members of the public, these free talks are set to be a highlight for science enthusiasts, students, and curious minds seeking to broaden their horizons. Whether you are an aspiring scientist or simply someone intrigued by the mysteries of the universe, there’s something for everyone in this series.
Each session will feature a Sussex academic who will present their research, shedding light on the impact their work has on our lives and the world around us:
- Monday 9 October – Will Roper: “Simulating the first galaxies: a tale of birds and bugs fixes”
- Monday 23 October – Dr Faith Matcham: “Digital sensing in major depression”
- Monday 6 November – Dr Josh McFayden: “Catching ghosts: first neutrino observation and searchers for Dark Matter”
- Monday 20 November – Dr Martin White: “Is waste heat a wasted opportunity?”
- Monday 4 December – Professor Gillian Forrester: “Hand to mouth: the language puzzle”
In-person attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, asking questions and participating in thought-provoking discussions. For those unable to attend in person, all talks will be recorded and made available on the , ensuring that the knowledge shared is accessible to a wider audience.
Professor Stephen Wilkins, the organiser of the Sussex Universe series, said: “At the 麻豆传媒社区入口 we have researchers working at the cutting edge of their fields. From probing the universe on the largest scales and exploring the weird and wonderful quantum realm to shedding light on how the human mind works, finding effective treatments for Alzheimer’s or investigating the eco-socio-cultural potentials and impacts of an increasingly digital world. These talks aim to bridge the gap between academia and the public, making science accessible and engaging for all.”
The kicks off at 6pm on Monday 9 October in the Fulton lecture theatre at the 麻豆传媒社区入口, with subsequent talks scheduled every two weeks.
Admission is free and no previous scientific knowledge is required.
