Working with diaries: Nin, intimacy and the everyday

25 January 12.30 to 2.00pm Seminar/Workshop, Special Collections Reading Room

Ruth Charnock and Fiona Murrell: Working with diaries: Nin, intimacy and the everyday

Dr. Ruth Charnock will be talking about Anais Nin, published diarist and novelist who famously wrote in her diary for over 60 years. As Ruth will discuss, Nin’s diary poses both difficulties and intriguing questions concerning authorship, authenticity and intimacy for the life-writing and literary scholar. Fiona Murrell will discuss her research into two unknown diarists whose documents are located in the Mass Observation Archive. She will focus on issues of reading 'ordinary' manuscript diaries and discuss the relationship between writing a diary, temporality and the experience of ageing.
