Staff computers

If you a buying a new computer with University funds, it should be purchased via IT Services.

Ordering equipment

Users generally receive a standard laptop. This basic system (including operating system, Microsoft Office, virus checker, firewall plus additional software) applies to both PC and Mac-based systems.

  • If you need a Windows or Apple laptop, mobile phone or tablet, please complete the (under Service Request. You may be asked to log in). The specifications of the devices are on the form, along with the options to order peripherals.
  • If you need a different device from those listed, for example a desktop computer, please and describe the specification you need. Our staff will get back to you about what systems are available.

Software

Additional software

Additional software can be downloaded directly from the following places without the need of administrative rights.

Windows PCs - Open Company Portal or Software Hub.

Mac - From the Launchpad open the 'Â鶹´«Ã½ÉçÇøÈë¿Ú Self-Service' application.

Specialised software

If you need to download a specialised software that isn't available on the aforementioned applications, please raise an . (Log in required)

Device maintenance

Cloud storage

Save any large files, including videos, to one of these cloud storage solutions.

Updates

IT Services will occasionally prompt you to update your device. Make sure you complete this as soon as possible to avoid interruption in your workflow.

Additionally to this, we recommend installing any manufacturer's updates.

Power saving

Should I turn off my staff PC when I go home?
It's best not to turn your PC off. Just log out.

Returning equipment?

    Equipment usually belongs to your department or school. Check if they would like to re-use the device before returning it to IT Services.
