Self funding your SKE course

Find out how you can self fund your SKE course, either by paying fees yourself or through your school/institution.

Eligibility

We offer a self-funded SKE route for:

  • teacher trainees who are not eligible for DfE funding
  • qualified teachers who want to teach a new subject, or refresh their subject knowledge before returning to teaching after a break
  • anyone considering teaching as a new career who wants to increase their subject knowledge before applying for teacher training
  • SKE subject courses which are not funded by the DfE.

Self-funded only courses

The following SKEs are not funded by the DfE, but we do offer a self-funded route:

Course structure and fees

Rather than four-week units, self-funded SKEs are based on blocks of 100 hours of study.  You can choose which units you want to study and add additional units as you progress.

Some courses are only offered for a particular amount of 100-hour blocks. Check your options for the SKE you’re interested in.

The cost is £800 for one 100 hour unit, and £500 for each additional unit. Here's a breakdown of costs depending on how many hours you choose to study:

Hours Cost
700 hours £3,800
600 hours £3,300
500 hours £2,800
400 hours £2,300
300 hours £1,800
200 hours £1,300
100 hours £800

Fees can be paid by you or, if relevant, by your school/institution (schools within the Sussex Partnership or PGCE Pedagogy and Practice Partnership can apply for partnership rates).
